What does it do ?
| The stepper motor is mainly responsible for the idle control on the Rover V8 engine. Any uneven running could well be caused by the stepper motor being fouled up |
Where is it ?
It is located at the rear of the plenum chamber, just below the windscreen

How I remove and clean it ?
| Lift the clip and pull the electrical plug out ,this can be a bit stiff. I used a 10" adjustable spanner to remove the stepper motor from its housing. Once removed just wipe the conical head with a rag dipped in white spirit or meths etc. The carbon deposits should come off quite easily. If not try using a brass bristled wire brush but this should not be necessary. |

Stepper removed The housing |

Once the Stepper motor has been cleaned don't forget to clean the inside of the housing with a rag dipped in white spirit etc To replace the Stepper motor in the housing use a new washer or wrap some PTFE around the threads to create an air tight seal. Do not be tempted to over tighten it when replacing or you could well split it and then have to buy a new one and they are not cheap With a bit of luck the car will now idle at approx 900-100rpm
